Over the past decade, Callum has been carefully shaping a workshop experience defined by musical integrity, clarity of purpose, and genuine artistic enjoyment.

The concept originated nearly twenty years ago, born from repeated encounters with poorly conceived “play days” — events that lacked structure, artistic leadership, and ambition. Too often, these experiences were musically unfocused, led without sufficient expertise, and ultimately failed to honour the musicians who gave their time and energy. The result was music-making that felt forced rather than inspired.

Callum believes that musicians deserve more. A workshop should be a place of discovery, not instruction for its own sake; of challenge, not intimidation. Participants should engage with demanding repertoire, receive clear and practical guidance on how to approach it, and feel supported throughout the process. Above all, the experience should be joyful — the kind that leaves musicians energised, inspired, and eager to share what they have achieved.

Over the past ten years, Callum has delivered high-impact workshops and ensemble development projects across the globe. His work includes collaborations with the Cambridge Youth Wind Orchestra, the Vejle FDF Brass Band in Denmark, and the Toneheim Folk High School in Norway. He was invited to lead the Woodwind Orchestra Play Day at St John’s Waterloo in London, welcoming 117 players for an intensive and artistically focused day of music-making, and was actively involved with the development of the University of Wisoconsin-Milwuakee Community Band (USA). More recently he's provided a fulfilling workshop experience with one of the UK's leading wind bands: Birmingham Symphonic Winds.
