THE TEACHER.
Inspiring Confident, Intelligent Musicians
Great teachers change lives. At their best, they ignite curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong passion for learning. At their worst, they can undermine belief and limit potential. Callum’s work as a music educator is shaped by firsthand experience of both.

Callum’s love of music was inspired by outstanding early teachers, and this formative influence continues to guide his approach to teaching today. Having also experienced ineffective teaching that damaged confidence, he brings a rare, deeply personal understanding of what effective music education looks like—and why it is so critical to long-term artistic development.

A Teaching Approach Built on Clarity and Confidence
Callum’s teaching philosophy can be summarised like this: honesty with a smile. By delivering clear, direct feedback within a supportive and encouraging environment, he enables students to:
-
Develop heightened musical self-awareness
-
Practise more intelligently and efficiently
-
Build confidence and resilience as performers
-
Improve performance quality and self-esteem
This approach equips students not only to perform at a high level, but to become independent, reflective musicians capable of sustained growth.

Professional Training and Academic Credentials
Callum is an alumnus of Trinity College of Music, Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium, and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He was a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Peck School of the Arts in the United States, working within a higher-education conservatoire environment.
His teaching spans instrumental performance, ensemble leadership, rehearsal technique, and professional preparation for the music industry.

Professional Performance & Military Music Experience
Alongside his educational work, Callum draws on extensive professional performance experience. He has performed with leading orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra.
He also served for nine years in the British Military, including roles as Principal Tubist with the Band of the Coldstream Guards and as a tubist with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force—experience that informs his disciplined, high-standards approach to ensemble performance and preparation.

Conducting, Leadership & International Experience
As a conductor and musical leader, Callum is established across Europe and the United States. His experience includes serving as Musical Director of the London Video Game Orchestra, and guest conducting the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra, Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, and Birmingham Symphonic Winds.
He is currently the Musical Director and Creative Director of Project // Symphonic, an international orchestral initiative focused on accessibility, flexibility, and high-level music-making.

"...He will push you to be the best musician you can be, and his friendly nature and overall musical knowledge will leave you feeling supported throughout." - Kasey Stone, Tenor sax.
